FAQ's

What is SDRS, LLC role in obtaining AKC registration?
MASCUSA, the AKC parent club for the Miniature American Shepherd has established an agreement with AKC to have all potential registrations and pedigree verified by SDRS, LLC. This will ensure the accuracy of the pedigrees and registrations that are being submitted to AKC. SDRS, LLC is the only approved registry gateway to register your dog with AKC.

Please note that each approved registry has their own rules and policies when it comes to registering dogs and if they allow a dog's name to be changed.  We have worked diligently to identify dogs that have multiple names with the approved registries. We make sure to submit pedigrees that show the same heritage for each dog within a pedigree. This is very important to make sure that going forward our pedigrees with AKC will have matching information for related dogs.

What are the requirements for your dog to be eligible for AKC registration?

A dog that is registered as an Australian Shepherd, regardless of the registry, can not apply for registration with AKC as a Miniature American Shepherd. An Australian Shepherd, regardless of how they are registered can not be a parent on a litter that needs to be registered.

The dog must be currently registered or have puppy papers that have been issued by the registries that have been approved by MASCUSA, AKC's  parent club for the Miniature American Shepherd. An acceptable registry does not guarantee that a dog will be eligible for submission to AKC as a Miniature American Shepherd.

The following registries are considered approved registries:

North American Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of the USA (NAMASCUSA)
Stock Dog Registry Services (SDRS)
United Kennel Club (UKC)
National Stock Dog Registry (NSDR)
Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of America (MASCA)
American Stock Dog Registry (ASDR)
International Miniature Australian Shepherd Club (IMASC)

International Herding Dog Association (IHDA)

What is the process once SDRS, LLC receives your application?

When we receive your Open Registration Application and current registration certificate or puppy papers we enter that information into our database and create a pedigree for your dog.

We have established a large database of dogs that have verified registration that we use to build your pedigree for AKC.

We do not have every dog in the database so there may be instances where you may need to contact your breeder to obtain information for your pedigree.

Once we have verified your pedigree, verified ownership, and the breeder we forward the information to AKC for registration of your dog.

Please note that it can take AKC up to two months to issue your registration once they receive it from SDRS, LLC.

Detailed instructions are located on the  AKC Application

Please refer to the Pedigree Verification Process page for information on the impact of having less than 3 generations of verified pedigree.
